Any social circle would be incomplete without friends. They know everything about you, including your darkest secrets. They are there to support you through the many ups and downs. But not everyone in your circle of friends is rooting for you. Some people are there to take advantage of you. Please accept our heartfelt apologies to everyone who had to deal with these fake friends. Keep an eye out for all of the red flags in the stories below.
Knowing you have a friend in a new city or country gives you a sense of security. Many people yearn to see a familiar face in the crowd at the end of the day. When a Redditor traveled to a new city, they texted a friend to meet them for coffee. The friend, annoyed, claims that he is too busy. The conversation would have died down at that point, but he decided it would be prudent to ask for $300 for the coffee. He has no qualms about being a jerk.
Free Custom Sneakers
The year is 2021. Can we get away from the notion that what artists do is a hobby? They, like everyone else, have bills to pay and lives to live, so no one should be surprised when they ask for payment in exchange for their services. A young woman texted an artist, requesting that they paint on her sneakers for free.
She was mortified, however, when the artist demanded a $100 fee. Why approach them if their work isn’t that good? she resorted to slandering the artist, declaring their art “isn’t even that good.”
Netflix or Hulu?
Imagine not speaking to someone on a regular basis until they text you and ask if you watch Netflix or Hulu. Surprisingly, the Redditor revealed that they watch Hulu. The other person appeared to be disappointed, but then inquired if they, too, use Netflix. They then asked for their Hulu password in a casual manner.
The freeloader becomes enraged when the Redditor refuses to share it, which they have every right to do. They were not pleased with how the Redditor pointed out their unnecessary expenses rather than purchasing the required Netflix subscription.
Friendship Over a Car
Sharing things with close friends is fairly common. It could be an accessory, an expensive dress, or a car that a friend spent months saving for. A thoughtful Redditor let his friend borrow his new car for a date, but only if he returned it by 10 p.m.
And though initially grateful, the friend’s tone quickly changed when the Redditor informed him that he would not be able to keep his car overnight. What’s perplexing is how irritated the friend is over a car that isn’t even his.
Thrift Shop Tactics
Before they spend money on an artist, some people should research how commissioned artworks are sold. You are free to keep it however you want, but you do not own the creative rights to it.
A Redditor was enraged when they saw one of their clients selling their artwork while claiming it was theirs. The client became enraged, claiming that this is how thrift shops operate and that the artist would have to refund their money if they wanted them to stop.
Can I Borrow Those AirPods?
When one person becomes enraged at the other for not sharing AirPods, you know the friendship isn’t real. People will often go out of their way to help their friends, even if it puts them in danger. Jamie had requested to borrow his friend’s AirPods.
They couldn’t because they use it to listen to music at work, according to their friend. Jamie has no right to speak up because his friend is under no obligation to give him their AirPods, but it doesn’t appear that he is aware of this.
Help With the Paper
Some people are hesitant to share their academic work. Sure, you might be fine with letting your friends take advantage of you in order to get that B, but some people find it strange to have their work plagiarized.
Someone texted their “friend” and asked if they had any papers available for their World Geography class. The person on the other end of the line was unimpressed and ignored their question. Not surprisingly, the freeloading pal had a nervous breakdown as a result of this.
The Big Favor
If you recommend your friends’ businesses and act as an unofficial ambassador for them, you are a nice person. Taking unfair advantage of your friends, on the other hand, makes you a toxic person.
A struggling musician got a text from an old friend inviting him to rap at an event. When he inquired about the equipment provided, the friend admitted that they were unaware that they were required to do so. For the event, he offered $50 and “food,” which would not even cover the musician’s gas expenses.
How Was She Even Invited?
A group of friends were on their way to a bachelorette party in Vegas when one of the bridesmaids started acting erratically. She had a habit of stealing clothes from her friends, so she asked a Redditor’s wife if she could borrow her black dress.
The woman politely declined, stating that she wanted to wear it and that nothing else in her closet would fit her. Karen had an outburst when she heard that and asked if she had ever called her fat. Things quickly deteriorated, and foul language was hurled around.
You Will Be Missed
The obnoxious bridesmaid was ejected from the wedding and bachelorette party as a result of her behavior. She texted the other woman, who was furious and had no time for her antics.
She confirmed that she had shown the bride screenshots of their conversation, reminding the guests of the woman’s rudeness. The bride refused to accept such negativity and canceled the trip. She went back to the first woman’s comments section to intimidate her. But it was all for naught!
Let Them Down
A Redditor’s old friend texted them, asking for recommendations for a website they were working on. A friend was introduced to them by the Redditor. They had no idea that they would live to regret the decision. The website creator became irritated as a result of the first friend’s poor behavior and stupid requests.
Their already strained relationship with the Redditor grew even worse. That’s when the freeloader revealed that they approached the Redditor only in the hopes of receiving free service.
Suits Him Right
Building custom gaming PCs is an interesting new hobby/profession that people have taken up. Gaming computers are more popular than ever before, thanks to an exponential increase in the number of gamers around the world. When an old school friend approached one of these hobbyists, they had just sold one of their creations for $1,300.
The friend was irritated because the person had sold their belongings for $1,300 when they had offered $500. Selling for $500 as opposed to $1,300. You get to choose.
Questionable Trade Offer
Bargaining can be a difficult game to master. You can save a lot of money if it’s done right. That does not, however, mean you can take advantage of people by making low-cost deals. Thankfully, not everyone in the game is an expert. As an example, consider this person.
They told the seller that their Sennheiser headphones were a downgrade and that they wanted Beats headphones instead. They proposed a trade after concluding that they had persuaded them sufficiently. We’re not sure why they were so enraged when the offer was declined.
Their Actual Audacity
Most of these selfish friends are the type who won’t check in on you for months and then show up unexpectedly when they need something. An old friend approached a Redditor and requested to use his pool table. He declined because his parents were visiting and he didn’t want to bother them.
The tone-deaf companion then inquired as to why the parents were unable to go upstairs. He tried to intimidate the Redditor after all of his other attempts failed. He did not, however, appear after that.
Curious to Cranky
A CB friend who was initially intrigued texted a needlepoint frame maker. The artist requested $50 after completing the design and canvas, which is a reasonable amount for such a design. The friend first tried to haggle by claiming he could get it cheaper on Etsy.
Then it occurred to them that perhaps the artist does not require money and could benefit from the exposure. He’d replace the $50 with tagging the artist in pictures. When you only have 120 Facebook friends, it isn’t the best deal.
The Bratty Fashionista
It’s bad enough to stalk people on social media, but saving someone’s photo and then asking them to send you their clothes so you can try them on for a day is borderline creepy.
A Redditor’s “friend” will occasionally scroll through her photos, select a dress as if it’s perfectly acceptable, and then ask her to send it over. The friend who couldn’t speak chose radio silence, while the other said an embarrassing “Girl bye.”
Everyone Is Annoying But Her
GoFundMe has a wide range of users. People are raising money for a variety of reasons, such as medical and college bills, as well as getting their hair done. A spoiled daughter set up a GoFundMe account and tried to persuade her friends to contribute so she could buy a car.
The 16-year-old was irritated by her mother’s refusal to let her teenage daughter drive the car alone. The teenager was supposed to get a Cadillac the following year, which is ironic.
Sounds Like a ‘You’ Problem
People, just because your friend owns a business does not entitle you to free services. Pay the legal amount if you truly support your friend. After all, they have bills to pay, and you should begin treating them as such.
A girl’s friend was dissatisfied because she believed it was unfair that she had to pay for her friend’s artwork. She assumed she’d be able to get it for free. When the friend mentioned that she needed the money, the greedy girl dismissed it as a “you” issue.
Two in One Day
It’s bad enough to have to deal with one selfish friend; imagine having to deal with two. A Redditor was so disgusted that he posted two screenshots of two of his fake friends acting like ungrateful jerks.
The first was upset that he didn’t get a free remote with the television, while the second was surprised that his friend didn’t give away his entire garage for free. What kind of ungrateful person would pass up a costly vivarium because the interior lights were not included?
Never Advertise as Free
When something is advertised as free, you get messages from all kinds of people. The person giving away the bed was half-expecting the woman to suggest renting a U-haul and delivering the free bed to the woman’s door.
A helpful Reddit comment points out how foolish it is to give something away for free. Set a reasonable price, give them a good deal, and then give it to them for free when they come to take it.
Might Be a Viral Thing
They aren’t the worst friend on the planet, but they are inconsiderate nonetheless. If a friend is sick, you don’t dismiss their feelings or suggest that it isn’t a big deal. You have no idea what they’re going through. So, no matter how knowledgeable you are, try to avoid giving medical advice.
Due to her illness, a woman was unable to maintain a sleepover schedule, and her friend tried to reassure her that it wasn’t something serious. Having said that, she did eventually understand, which is a plus.
How Dare You Ask
Sheol is not the type of person you want to be friends with. Many people dislike doing business with their friends, regardless of how small the transaction is. Money has the power to destroy long-term friendships, but we’re not sure if this was ever a friendship to begin with.
Sheoli blocked their friend on all platforms after borrowing money from them. When their friend threatened to inform their parents, they became enraged and began cursing them for being so narrow-minded. The good news is that they were able to repay their debt.
Ignore or Say Good Luck
A woman texted her friend after several years of not speaking, asking if they wanted to photograph a cake smash event. She explained that they couldn’t pay the photographer because the cake had already been paid for. Despite the fact that she was not rude herself, her thought process was.
It is never acceptable to assume that your friends will perform a service for you for free just because you believe you are entitled to it. However, we appreciate her being courteous and non-obtrusive.
Quinoa and Other Fancy Goods
In this story, there’s a lot to unpack. A single father with a baby asked a friend for assistance in purchasing food. The friend graciously agreed, offering advice that would save them both time and money.
The man, dissatisfied with the assistance he was receiving, tried to persuade them to pay for his Uber fare so he could go to the grocery store. One thing led to another, and the helpful friend’s generosity had run its course. Before shunning him, they bought some items for his “friend’s” baby.
Think About the Exposure
Do you have a problem with people spamming you? People prefer to ramble on in 9-10 messages rather than sum it up in one or two texts. Clients can be a pain to work with because of their never-ending list of demands. For starters, this one automatically gave themselves a discount on the icons.
That was before they decided that because they had reached 50 subscribers, they should get the third one for free. We don’t think they’re making a very convincing case.
A Big Requirement
A petty student expects too much of her friend in another episode of the worst Choosy Beggars. Her professor keeps bugging her about her iready test, so she asks a friend to take it for her. She follows up with a major requirement: a score of at least 494 is preferred.
She should be grateful that her friend agreed to take the test in the first place, rather than expecting them to do well. What sort of bubble does she inhabit?
What Money Does He Mean?
We would block the sender immediately if we received texts like that. This person is completely insane. He keeps making up these fictitious sums of money, hoping that his friends will cover his expenses — as if existing is a service to the world!
It’s admirable that he wants to reflect and grow personally, but he shouldn’t do so at the expense of others. He sounds like a moody 14-year-old in the majority of his texts. It’s past time for you to grow.
Now Give it Back
Claudia received a slew of infuriating texts from her flatmate one fine morning. She had purchased a refrigerator from her flatmate’s friend Melissa about a year ago, and now she demanded its return.
Melissa had a justification: another of her friends needed it, and the second fridge was just sitting in Claudia’s garage. Claudia claims she will not return the fridge after paying for it. Melissa’s flatmate tries to make her feel guilty by implying that she still owns the item.
The No-Loan Policy
The Redditor will never lend money to anyone again after this incident. A friend approached them and asked for money, claiming they had no idea what they were doing. He didn’t take long to reveal that he wanted the money to buy drugs.
The Redditor stated that they would feel more at ease purchasing food for them, but they declined the offer, claiming that they do not require food as much as they do those substances. Who cares if you have food in your stomach as long as you can lose your senses?
With You or for You?
Patience, hard work, and, in many cases, monetary investments are required to learn any skill. This is why people are compensated in exchange for their services. It is unrealistic to expect a friend to work for them for free. You must understand that if you ask someone to do something for you, they will expect something in return.
It is not cooperating with you; rather, it is cooperating with you in exchange for money. If that thought gives you the creeps, become a jack of all trades and learn how to do everything yourself.
Give Me a Gift Card
When a friend is going through a difficult time, giving them money is not the same as buying them a gift. Let’s start with the basics. You have to be pretty pitiful to be envious of a friend who helps a stranger. Despite this, the friend continued to give in to the absurd requests.
It’s a strange mindset to ask for a $50 Uber gift card because they wanted the gift to be special. It is not acceptable to nag your friends into purchasing something for you.
It’s Not a Pity Party
One of the lowest things people still do is guilt a friend into getting you free stuff. When a designer was commissioned to create something for a mutual friend, they included their prices in the request.
The friend, who was clearly not interested in paying more than a few cents, tried to guilt-trip the designer by mentioning their friend’s father’s recent death. When the designer friend refused to sway, he or she was labeled selfish. Isn’t it selfish of you to deny your friend the opportunity to make a living?
Haggling Gone Out of Hand
It’s tough, isn’t it, when playing the single parent card doesn’t work and you have to haggle like a normal person? Being a single parent is difficult, but using that as an excuse to get what they want all of the time is unethical. The books were first bid at $30 by a woman.
She was disappointed to find that the books had already been sold, so she tried again, quoting $40 this time. The books, unfortunately for her, had already been sold for a higher price.
Can I Buy Your Phone?
This person, whoever they are, needs to improve their vocabulary. He proposed $40 for a phone that he knows costs more than $400. Naturally, the seller was adamant about not selling. It didn’t make any sense to me. The potential buyer was taken aback when they said they would sell it for $490.
He claimed that a Samsung model could be had for $375. His friend, to no one’s surprise, asked why he was bothering them when he could just get a Samsung for that price. Who was he trying to deceive?
That’s a No to Wilson
When you have high standards, you must have the financial means to meet them. If not, you’ll have to make do with what you have. It was an old set of Wilson golf clubs in this case.
One brother wanted to borrow the other’s new golf club set for a friend, so the two brothers got into an argument. Wilson’s set, the entitled friend declared, would never be approached. When he realized he couldn’t win, the brother ended the conversation with the perfect meme.
Set Priorities
Their wife’s conversation with a friend was posted on Reddit by a Redditor. She received a message from a friend who was hoping to borrow money. Initially, the woman claimed that she and her husband were having financial difficulties due to her husband’s job situation.
She finally accepted that she had spent the last of her money on reserving a baby shower venue after a while. Because throwing a lavish baby shower is more important than feeding your children or brag-worthy status updates on social media.
No Friend Discount
Anyone who has even the smallest regard for their friend’s services will never request a friend discount. If your friend cheerfully offers you one, it’s a different story, but it also means you have to act kindly.
Shade is not the type of friend you want to hang out with. She’s the type to remind you of all the things she’s done for you, no matter how insignificant. She squabbled with her friend about the $100 price tag, disrespecting her friend’s work. When she brought up the baker’s example, the conversation became slightly funny.
Reverse Debit Payment
Don’t try reverse psychology because it doesn’t work in every situation. We heard about a man who owes a Redditor $150 in one of the strangest stories we’ve heard. Rather than paying for it, they come up with a terrible idea.
He proposes that they work their shifts at work, bringing the lender’s earnings to $120. They reasoned that by doing so, they would be able to repay the loan without having to do anything. Is there any limit to how lazy he can become?
Such Malicious Intentions
A PS4 can cost anywhere from $150 to $300 if purchased secondhand. Keep in mind that a controller is not included, so that will be an additional cost. Even after receiving a free PS4 console and controller, the friend was enraged by his generous friend.
He assumed he’d been given a malfunctioning controller on purpose. Rather than thanking him for his thoughtful gesture, he went on and on about how he’d have to buy a new controller.
Giving Away a Couch
Freebies have a tendency to drive people insane. So don’t be surprised if you see them getting irritated because they didn’t get a free pen! Someone had offered Aiden to take the couch on a specific day in the first set of texts.
The person gave it to someone else in need when he said “no.” Aiden went insane when he saw this and began cursing at them. It’s a good thing Aiden didn’t notice.
Go Get Gas
Is it wrong for us to find the last message comical? It’s completely irrational because you wouldn’t expect someone to be so entitled. Most people are willing to give their friends a ride now and then.
Nevertheless, there is a problem when the friend assumes they can simply ask for and receive it at any time. Because they didn’t want to pay for gas, the friend had already said no. What right did he have to ask for a refill? That’s their pal, not their driver.
Beggars Who Are Choosers
For a reason, the metaphor “Beggars can’t be choosers” exists. You can’t bargain when you don’t have anything to your name. A generous soul wanted to assist a Facebook friend who claimed they were having financial difficulties after their boyfriend left.
The FB friend responded enthusiastically when they first texted him. They most likely expected to be served a five-star meal. That’s why they politely declined canned food and rice when offered.
Practice Dummy to be Free
A tattoo artist received an unusual request a few months into their apprenticeship. Their friend advised them to treat them as if they were a practice dummy. This essentially meant that the tattoo artist was free to practice on them.
The friend, on the other hand, was looking for free tattoos. They pretended to be doing something noble when, in reality, they were looking for a convenient loophole. Fortunately, the other person was not fooled.
Gift Me One Too!
As a wedding gift, a calligraphy enthusiast gave her cousin a Mad Hatter painting. The artwork piqued the interest of the bride’s friend, who wanted one for herself. She texted the artist and explained her requirements, opting for the most expensive options.
The lady informed her that it would cost her $45; this irritated her friend. She claimed the bride told her it would be free and that she was taking advantage of her. Furthermore, when the artist finally declined her offer, she became extremely enraged.
Only Texts When Needed
This woman isn’t the worst friend you could have, but she is extremely needy. Every other day, she appears with her seemingly endless list of favors. She’ll ask her friend to take in a cat one day and then she’ll ask her to dogsit the next.
She is definitely better than the majority of the people on this list because every time she is declined, she ends the conversation politely. Knowing that your friend is only there because they need something is, on the other hand, a bad feeling.
