You can eat happiness. At least there are foods that have been shown to lighten our mood. Not only the evergreen chocolate creates a good mood, bananas, fish and pasta also promote life satisfaction. What could be nicer than eating something delicious – and being happy on the side? With some foods, we can actually “dope” ourselves a bit happier: They have been shown to lift our spirits. So not only our favorite chocolate should improve the mood. Pasta, bananas and fish can also have a positive effect on our mood.

Pineapples, bananas, and plums are the serotonin stars among fruits. They are sweet, yet healthy and make you happy. The fruits contain a particularly high level of tryptophan. The amino acid helps to form the messenger substance serotonin, which is often referred to as the happiness hormone.

Dried fruits, such as dates and figs, are also good ways to lighten the mood. In addition to tryptophan, they also contain a lot of magnesium, which makes us more resistant to stress.

Chocolate

Chocolate is considered an evergreen among mood enhancers, often used for love sickness, exam periods, and other stressful situations, actually constantly. Experts also assume that there is a reward effect here, which is achieved by the candy. Chocolate products also contain tryptophan, which helps with serotonin production.

Pasta, Potato, Bread and Rice

According to this, the carbohydrates contained in pasta, potatoes, bread, and rice help us deal better with stress.

Fish is said to have a  relieving effect that also prevents depression. At least that is what studies by the American health authority “National Institutes of Health” prove: the more fish is consumed in a country, the less often depression is diagnosed there.

It is no coincidence that we like to drink coffee and black tea in the morning. Caffeine “invigorates”: It stimulates various metabolic functions and, for example, stimulates the central nervous system and the heart. It makes you more alert, increases awareness – and lifts your mood. However: in the case of heavy drinkers, the habituation effect sets in at some point.
